Form Now Help

How ordering works

Form Now is the on-demand 3D printing service by Formlabs. This page explains every step of an order, from uploading a file to receiving your parts, and answers the questions we hear most often.

How ordering works at a glance

  1. Upload your 3D model files on the home page. No account is needed to upload and configure.
  2. Configure each part: material, finish, scale and quantity. The estimated delivery date updates instantly, and automatic printability checks run on every file.
  3. Sign in with a Formlabs account to see prices and order. Until you sign in, prices are hidden and the configurator shows a Login button instead of “Add to cart”. Your files and settings stay in place when you sign in.
  4. Add to cart. You can keep adding parts and edit them later.
  5. Check out: enter a US shipping address, choose a shipping option and pay by card.
  6. We print, finish and ship your parts from our factory in Billerica, Massachusetts. You get email updates, and you can follow the order under Account → My orders.

Formlabs account and sign-in

A Formlabs account is required to place an order. Guest checkout is not available. Orders are placed from an account so that you can track them, download invoices and reorder.

  • Without signing in you can upload files and configure parts (material, finish, scale, quantity), and see printability checks and delivery estimates.
  • Prices are shown only after you sign in. Signed out, the configurator shows “Log in to see prices and order.” with a Login button where “Add to cart” would be. Signing in opens a window on the same page, so your uploaded files and configuration are kept.
  • If your cart already has parts in it, for example ones imported from a shared cart link, prices are shown and you can sign in at checkout instead.

Form Now uses your Formlabs account, the same account used across Formlabs services. If you don't have one, choose to create an account in the sign-in window. Sign-in and sign-up open in a window titled “Log in to Formlabs”.

Verifying your email address

The first time you sign in to Form Now, your Formlabs account's email address must be verified. If it isn't, sign-in stops on a Verify your email screen, which sends you a verification email as it opens. To get through:

  1. Open the email and click the verification link. Check your spam or junk folder if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes.
  2. Come back to Form Now and sign in again.
  • If no email arrives, click Resend verification email on that screen. Clicking “Sign in again” on its own does not send a new email.
  • Verification emails can only be sent every few minutes. If you just requested one, the screen tells you how long to wait.
  • If the screen says the sign-in has expired, sign in again to get a new resend option.
  • Resetting your Formlabs password does not verify your email address; use the verification link.
  • If the email still doesn't arrive, contact us at [email protected] and we can send it for you.

Earlier orders placed without an account

If you ordered from Form Now as a guest in the past, create a Formlabs account with the same email address. Those orders then appear in your account automatically.

Uploading files

Drag and drop files onto the upload area on the home page, or click it to browse. Uploads are secure and confidential, and you keep all rights to your designs.

  • Accepted formats: .stl, .obj, .3mf, .form, .step, .stp, .stpz, .sldprt, .sldasm, .prt, .asm, .jt, .catpart, .catproduct, .ipt, .iam, .3dm, .glb, .zip. CAD files (STEP, SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, Inventor, JT, Rhino) and 3MF files are converted to a mesh for printing.
  • Color files: .glb files and .zip files (one .obj with its .mtl) keep their colors and print only in Full Color.
  • Maximum file size: 300 MB per file.
  • Multiple files: you can upload several files at once, and add more from the configure page with “Add model”.
  • Units: files are read in millimeters. If a model looks too small to be in millimeters, we ask whether it was designed in inches. You can view dimensions in mm, cm or inches.
  • Scale: you can scale a part by percentage, or type a size for one axis; proportions are always kept.
  • Orientation is chosen by us for printing; you don't need to set it.
  • We print the models you provide. We do not offer design or 3D modeling services.

PreForm (.form) files

  • A .form file is already prepared in PreForm, so its material and print settings come from the file and can't be changed in Form Now. It is printed at 1:1 scale.
  • Upload one .form file at a time, and not together with other file types.
  • Some .form files are refused, for example ones with custom print settings, Color Resin, an unsupported printer or an unsupported layer height. The message explains which.
  • In the cart, Print Validation is on by default for .form files: we review the print setup before printing. If you turn it off, the file is printed exactly as submitted, and a print that fails because the file wasn't optimized is refunded at 50%.

Materials and finishes

We print with Formlabs SLA resins and SLS powders, and in beta with FDM filaments and PolyJet Full Color. Pick a material group first, then a specific material where the group has more than one.

SLA resins

  • Standard Resin: Grey Resin V5, White Resin V5, Black Resin V5, Precision Model Resin, Signal Red Resin V5, Formlabs Orange Resin V5, Cadmium Yellow Resin V5, Kelly Green Resin V5, Cobalt Blue Resin V5, Royal Purple Resin V5, Berry Pink Resin V5
  • Tough 1000 Resin
  • Tough 1500 Resin: Tough 1500 Resin V2
  • Tough 2000 Resin: Tough 2000 Resin V2, Tough 2000 Resin
  • Clear Resin: Clear Resin V5
  • Rigid 4000 Resin
  • Flexible 80A Resin
  • Flexible 50A Resin: Flexible 50A Resin V2
  • High Temp Resin
  • Flame Retardant Resin
  • Rigid 10K Resin
  • ESD Resin

SLS powders

  • Fused Nylon 12 Powder: Fused Nylon 12 Powder, Nylon 12 White Powder
  • Fused Nylon 11 Pro Powder: Nylon 11 Pro Powder
  • Fused Glass Filled Nylon 12 Powder
  • Fused Nylon 12 Tough Powder: Nylon 12 Tough Powder
  • Fused TPU 90A Powder

Materials marked Premium Color (the colored Standard Resins and Nylon 12 White Powder) cost more and may take longer, because they need dedicated processing. Their mechanical performance matches the standard versions.

FDM filaments (beta)

  • PLA: PLA (Black), PLA (White), PLA (Red), PLA (Blue)
  • PETG: PETG (Red), PETG (Black)
  • ABS: ABS (White)
  • ASA: ASA (Black)
  • ABS-GF: ABS-GF (White), ABS-GF (Black)
  • PC: PC (White)
  • PPA-CF: PPA-CF (White), PPA-CF (Black)
  • PA6-CF: PA6-CF (Black)
  • TPU: TPU (White), TPU (Black)

PolyJet (beta)

  • Full Color: Full Color (Multi-Color)

Beta materials are marked “Beta” in the material picker. FDM and PolyJet parts ship with their standard as-printed finish. Full Color prints the colors from your file and needs a color file (see Uploading files).

Finishes

Which finishes you can choose depends on the material; the configurator only shows the finishes offered for the material you picked. Some finishes are limited to parts up to a certain size, and the configurator tells you when your part is too large for one.

  • Supports Removed + Sanded: Support structures are removed from the part. Any marks left on the parts are lightly sanded down with 320 grit sandpaper.
  • Standard: Extra smooth finish for detailed models.
  • Supports Removed: Support structures are removed from the part. No additional finishing or sanding is performed (ideal if you want to finish parts yourself)
  • Supports Attached: Parts are fully washed and cured, but support structures remain attached to the model. This is the fastest and most economical option. To ensure parts are thoroughly cleaned, we may occasionally need to remove support prior to shipment. Some models may be shipped off supports.
  • Polished (beta, may extend your lead time): Parts are tumble-polished after standard finishing. This reduces the matte grain of the SLS surface, leaving it smoother and more uniform. Sharp edges and fine surface detail may soften slightly.
  • Vapor Smoothed (beta, may extend your lead time): A chemical vapor process fuses the outer layer of the part into a sealed, semi-gloss skin. Porosity is reduced and the surface is smoother to the touch. Small features may lose some definition.
  • Dyed Black (beta, may extend your lead time): Parts are immersion-dyed black after standard finishing. The dye penetrates the surface rather than sitting on top of it. The final shade varies slightly between materials.
  • Sanded + Clear Coated (beta, may extend your lead time): Supports are removed, the part is sanded, and a clear coat is applied. This improves the optical clarity of the finished part. Available on Clear Resin only.
  • Sanded + Media Blasted (beta, may extend your lead time): After sanding, the part is media blasted to an even matte surface. Visible layer lines and sanding marks are removed. Available on Rigid 10K only. Recessed geometry may trap blast media.
  • Sanded + Post Thermal Cure (beta, may extend your lead time): After supports are removed and the part is sanded, it goes through an additional controlled heat cycle. This cures parts further than UV alone can. Thermal curing changes the material's properties, not its appearance. Expect more heat resistance and stiffness than UV alone with slightly more shrinkage.

Printability checks

Every uploaded file is checked automatically. Results appear in the printability panel on the configure page. A part can't be added to the cart while a check has failed or is still running.

  • Size check: the part must fit the build volume of the chosen material and be at least 2 mm on its longest side. If it's too big, use “Shrink to Fit”; if it's too small, use “Scale up to minimum”. Some materials have a larger minimum size.
  • Multiple bodies: if a file contains several separate bodies, choose “Split Model” to make each body its own part, or “Keep as Assembly” for print-in-place, articulated or single-unit models.
  • Damaged mesh: problems with the mesh are shown as a warning and don't block ordering.
  • Wall thickness: areas thinner than 0.5 mm are flagged. You can still order by clicking “Accept printing risk”, which means you accept that those areas may have defects.

We don't repair models automatically. If a check finds a problem other than size, fix it in your CAD software, export again and re-upload.

If our production team finds a problem that the automatic checks didn't, we contact you before printing; see When we need a decision from you.

Pricing, quantities and discounts

  • Prices are instant and depend on the part's geometry, material, finish, scale and quantity. Prices are in US dollars.
  • Sign in to see prices; they are hidden while you are signed out.
  • Volume discount: ordering more of the same part lowers the price per part. The configurator shows your saving and the per-part price tiers.
  • Quantity starts at 1; there is no fixed maximum.
  • Shipping and sales tax are calculated at checkout from your shipping address.
  • Promo codes are entered at checkout. The code WELCOME10 works on your first order only.
  • Prices in a cart are rechecked if they are more than 24 hours old. If anything changed, you're asked to review the cart before you pay.
  • If a price can't be calculated automatically (for example “Unable to get a quote this time”), try again, or contact us for a manual quote.

Lead time and delivery estimates

The estimated delivery date shown in the configurator, cart and checkout is made of two parts:

  • Production lead time: the business days we need to print, finish and pack your parts. It depends on material, finish, quantity and how busy the factory is. Many orders ship within 1–2 business days.
  • Carrier transit time: how long the carrier takes from our factory in Billerica, MA to your address, depending on the shipping option you choose.

The daily order cutoff is 2 PM Eastern Time on business days: for the fastest materials, orders placed by then ship the next business day. Delivery dates are estimates, not guarantees. For some SLS parts the lead time shown is an estimate that we confirm after you order.

Your cart

  • Change quantities directly in the cart. Select parts to edit them in the configurator (“Edit Selected”) or remove them. You can also add notes for our team.
  • Your cart is saved in your browser. When you sign in, it's linked to your account. If your browser's cart is empty when you sign in, the most recent open cart from your account is loaded instead. Two carts are never merged.
  • When you sign out, your cart stays on your account and appears again the next time you sign in with an empty cart.

Sharing a cart

Signed-in customers can share their cart with “Share Cart”. This creates a link to a copy of the cart's parts as they are at that moment. Anyone with the link can view the parts and import them into their own cart, no account needed to view; the person who imports then checks out from their own account. Manage and revoke your shared links under Account → Shared Carts.

Checkout

Checkout requires you to be signed in (see Formlabs account and sign-in). It has four steps:

  1. Contact: the email address of your Formlabs account. Order emails go to this address.
  2. Addresses: a shipping address (a phone number is required for delivery) and a billing address, which is the same as shipping unless you add a different one.
  3. Delivery: choose a shipping option. The delivery date for each option is shown.
  4. Payment: pay by card. You can add your own order reference or PO number, which appears on your invoice. You must agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy before paying.

Where we ship

  • We ship to addresses in the United States only. International shipping is not available.
  • We don't ship to PO boxes or to APO, FPO or DPO military addresses.
  • Addresses are checked with the carrier. If we suggest a correction, review it before continuing. If an address is refused, check that the ZIP code matches the state.

Shipping options

  • UPS Ground
  • UPS 2nd Day Air
  • UPS Next Day Air
  • Local pickup at 18 Esquire Rd, North Billerica, MA 01862, available 24/7. Pickup details are in your confirmation email.
  • Express (for .form files only, up to 10 builds): delivery within 24–48 hours for orders placed by 4:00 PM ET. $150 will be refunded if we miss the delivery window. Express files print exactly as uploaded, without print validation. Some addresses get same-day courier delivery.

Payment, tax and credits

  • We accept major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Payment is taken when you place the order.
  • Sales tax is calculated for your shipping address. If it can't be calculated, the order can't be placed; try again in a few minutes.
  • Tax exemption: email your exemption certificate to [email protected]. Once we add it to your account, tax is not charged on your orders.
  • Store credit on your account can be applied at checkout.

Quotes and purchase orders

  • Signed-in customers can choose “Generate Quote” in the cart instead of paying. A quote locks your parts, prices, shipping and addresses for 30 days, and comes as a PDF by email. Your cart is emptied once the quote is created.
  • Find your quotes under Account → Quotes. Pay an open quote by card, or upload a purchase order (PDF, up to 10 MB). We review purchase orders within 1 business day and email you when the order is confirmed.
  • An expired quote can't be paid; add its parts to your cart again to get current prices. Quotes can't be paid with store credit.

After you order

After paying, you see a confirmation page with your order number (FN-…), and a confirmation email is sent to your account's email address.

Following your order

Sign in and open Account → My orders. To view an order, including from the link in an email, you must be signed in to the Formlabs account that placed it. Orders move through these statuses:

  • Submitted: we have your order and are preparing it.
  • In Production: your parts are being printed and finished.
  • On Hold: we need your input before we can continue. Open the order to respond, or reply to our email.
  • Shipped: every box has left our factory.
  • Delivered: the carrier has delivered your order.
  • Canceled

Emails you can expect

  • Order confirmation, right after you order.
  • Shipping confirmation with the carrier and tracking number. Large orders may ship in several boxes, each with its own email and tracking number.
  • A notice if your order is taking longer than expected.
  • A request for a decision if we find a problem with a part (see below).
  • Notices of any change or refund to your order.

Invoices and reordering

On each order in Account → My orders you can download a PDF invoice (“View Invoice”) and reorder the same parts (“Reorder”), which adds them to your cart.

When we need a decision from you

Our production team checks parts before printing. If a part has a problem, such as thin walls, very small features or holes, or a damaged mesh, we put the order on hold and email you. Sign in and open the order to see the issue, with photos, for each affected part, then answer for each part:

  • Print as-is: we do our best, but the part may have defects from the issue shown.
  • Request a refund: we take the part out of the order and refund it.
  • Acknowledge: for a part we can't make at all, it is refunded to your original payment method.

You can also cancel the entire order from there, which refunds it to your original payment method. Once you submit, no further action is needed. The email gives a date to respond by. We send a reminder, and if we haven't heard from you by that date, we go ahead with the order and print the parts as-is.

We may also offer to upgrade an order to faster shipping. That is optional: nothing changes unless you pay for the upgrade.

Changes, cancellations, refunds and quality issues

  • Orders can't be changed or canceled from the website once placed, and an order can't be canceled once it is in production. If something is wrong, email [email protected] as soon as possible.
  • Parts removed from an order and shipping changes are listed on the order page under “Changes to this order”, with the state of each refund. Refunds go to your original payment method or, where agreed, to store credit.
  • Quality issues: report a problem with your parts within 3 business days of delivery, with photos. Don't post-process the parts first. We send replacements at no charge or refund you, as set out in the Terms of Service. Replacement parts appear on your original order.

Troubleshooting

I can't check out without signing in. Is there a guest checkout?

No. Every order is placed from a Formlabs account. Create one for free in the sign-in window; your cart is kept.

Sign-in says “Verify your email” and no email arrives.

That screen sends the email as it opens. Check your spam folder; if nothing arrives within a few minutes, click “Resend verification email” (not only “Sign in again”). Click the link, then sign in again. If it still doesn't arrive, email [email protected].

I can't see my order, or the order link asks me to sign in.

Sign in with the Formlabs account whose email address placed the order. If you ordered as a guest before accounts were required, create an account with that email and the order appears automatically.

My cart is empty after signing in, or shows a different cart.

Your cart is saved per browser and linked to your account at sign-in. If the browser had no items, your most recent cart from your account is loaded. Carts are not merged, so items from a cart on another device stay in that cart.

My address is refused.

We ship only within the United States, and not to PO boxes or APO, FPO or DPO addresses. Check that the ZIP code matches the state and accept any suggested correction.

I can't add a part to the cart.

If you are signed out, sign in first: the button is replaced by Login. Otherwise the button stays disabled while the file uploads, while checks run and while the price loads. If a printability check failed, fix it as the check describes (for example, scale the part or split it).

Why can't I see prices? I'm asked to log in.

Prices are shown only to signed-in customers. Click Login in the configurator and sign in or create a free Formlabs account; your uploaded files and settings stay in place and the prices appear.

Where is my tracking number?

It is in the shipping confirmation email, sent when each box leaves our factory.
